Course Description

Did you know teens and women are not getting the dental care they need during pregnancy?

Be a part of the conversation to explore why making the referral connection between dental and medical providers is crucial for improving the health of mom and baby before, during and after pregnancy.

The Texas Department of State Health Services – Oral Health Improvement Program (OHIP) and the Children’s Oral Health Coalition have partnered to host a series of Ask the Docs.  Through education, networking and building of relationships, Ask the Docs brings medical and dental experts together to have meaningful conversations, provide accurate information, address common barriers to care, and identify opportunities for care coordination.

Learning Objectives

In our upcoming topic, we will discuss how medical and dental providers can:

  • Identify when to refer pregnant people to a medical or dental provider
  • Establish referral workflow (who, what, when, how)
  • Create a referral list, formal collaborations and networks
  • Recognize ways to improve the referral process (designated person, info to include, follow-up, track and support patients)
