Mark Bullock, DDS
Dr. Bullock is a special needs dentist and dental director at the Abilene State Supported Living Center, a state facility for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He previously served as the Chief Dental Officer for Mercy Ships, providing free dental care to the people of West Africa. After earning his dental degree from the University of Texas Dental School in San Antonio, he completed a 1-year Army residency in Advanced General Dentistry. Driven by a passion for underserved dental patients, he takes pride in providing comprehensive and compassionate dental care to patients with complex needs and challenges. As a special needs dentist, his goals include improving access to quality dental care for patients with IDD.
Course Description
Advanced anesthesia is an integral component in the management of the oral health of patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) due to the need for advanced behavior management. Depending on the level of disability, both mental and physical, even simple dental treatments often require some type of anesthesia. In today’s program we will explore the uses of advanced anesthesia in the management of patients with IDD and discuss some of the impacts it has on providing dental care.
Course Objectives
- Define advanced anesthesia and types used in the management of patients with IDD.
- Discuss the role of advanced anesthesia in dental care of patients with IDD: Tips and tricks.
- Discuss the role of the General Dentist with the provision of advanced anesthesia.
